Indoor soccer is a fairly common sport in South Africa and is contested at various playing levels from professional to amateur leagues or friendlies and children's birthday parties. An important thing to know about indoor soccer is that it is a completely different sport to Action Soccer as the 2 respected sports are played under different formats and completely different rules. All in all indoor football is great fun and is also referred to as fast soccer. This sport is growing rapidly and South Africa even play international matches against other countries using the Indoor Soccer format. It is all about controlling the ball and your opposing team, because if they do not have the ball, they can't score!

Indoor Soccer is an amazing game and the sport is fast and furious. You do not need to be the fittest person in the world to play this fun indoor sport but it helps if you want to play the full match or if you want to stay injury free for the whole season. I personally can't get enough of indoor football and I play as much as possible. Indoor Soccer is different to outdoor football in quite a few ways... In South Africa each indoor team consists of 6 players, these 6 players include a goalkeeper. The playing field is much smaller and is a rectangular or oblong shape where either a wall or net surrounds the entire arena to prevent the ball from going out. Thus there are no corner kicks, goal kicks or throw-ins. And as you read more of the content of this website you will learn more of the rules and differences this game has to normal soccer.

Many of the great footballers we see today played indoor soccer when they were younger because indoor soccer helps you in so many ways. It helps develop skill, ball control, passing accuracy, speed and it helps your brain to think a lot faster in pressure situations. I currently play at the Edenvale Indoor Soccer Club and I am part of a team called Hotspurs. Hotspurs used to play in league 3, but as all of us were first time indoor footballers we asked if the management at Edenvale Indoor Soccer could drop us to League 4. They gladly did and we are doing quite well for ourselves now.
